Retiree: Other Benefits
Retirees now have the option of electing vision insurance through Aetna.
GROUP CORE TERM LIFE AND ADDITIONAL TERM LIFE INSURANCE
Retirees who enroll in Medical or Dental Insurance through Manatee County also receive a $1,000 Life Insurance policy at no cost.
At the time of retirement, employees may also choose a conversion or portability option in order to maintain the life insurance policies they had an an active employee.
ADDITIONAL LONG TERM DISABILITY
Additional Long Term Disability terminates on the last day of work. If an employee is on Long Term Disability and then elects to retire, the employee should contact the local Social Security office and Florida Retirement System regarding the availability and coordination of benefits.
HEALTH AND LIFESTYLE MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS
Retirees and their eligible Dependents enrolled in any retiree Medical Plan may participate in some of the health and lifestyle management programs; however a retiree and covered dependents are not eligible to earn Health Bucks for participation in applicable programs. Refer to the retiree handbook for more info.
457 DEFERRED COMPENSATION
Prior to retirement, an employee with a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan should contact the program representative listed below for information regarding the various options for continuing or withdrawal of funds. Currently, only retirees of the BCC have access to the following 457 Plans.
The Board of County Commissioners sponsors the following 457 Deferred Compensation programs:
COBRA – Federal Continuation of Coverage
Per Federal rules, Manatee County Government is required to provide retirees with the opportunity to enroll in COBRA. If you receive this information and are intending on enrolling in the Your Choice Plan or a Medicare Supplement, you may disregard the information.
A Former Employee who does not elect to continue Medical and/or Dental Coverage as a Retiree with Florida Retirement System Benefits, at the time of termination, will be provided the opportunity to continue coverage according to the COBRA Rules. Within 15 days after receiving notification of termination, a certified letter will be sent to the last known address containing information for continuation of coverage under COBRA. The Retiree and/or Dependents must enroll within 60 days of receipt of the certified letter and pay back all premiums in order to continue their Medical and/or Dental coverage.
